A 30-year-old police sergeant, Benjamin McNish has quit his job.
This comes after he was found guilty of voyeurism. It was gathered that he was using his iPhone to spy on women.
McNish resigned after being given given a suspended sentence at his Southwark crown court trial in July for using an iPhone to spy on a woman in a shower during his stay in a police accommodation while on a course in Camden, north London, in February 2019.
Though he denied spying by holding the phone over the top of a shower cubicle in February 2019, claiming he was trying to find his razor, a Met Police panel in Chelsea found him guilty of misconduct.
He was subsequently sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, and placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
A misconduct hearing on Thursday August 26, ruled that he would have been dismissed without notice if he had still been a serving officer. According to the police panel, his actions amounted to gross misconduct.
Met Police Det Chief Supt, Stephen Clayman said;
“McNish’s actions were completely unacceptable and shocking.”
