The remix of BNXN’s “Kilometer” is what we can call the most anticipated song of 2022 so far.
The song, a track from his 2021 release, “Sorry I’m Late” was one of the lesser-known tracks on the project before BNXN (fka Buju) decided to bring it back and make a remix this year.
The announcement of the remix featuring Zinoleesky came at a time when the Next Rated debates were really hot, and it just fuelled. Fans hoped they being on the same track together would set the Buju v. Zino debate to rest once and for all.
However, BNXN failed to release the song on schedule and cited technical issues. Then things took a rather unexpected turn when fans on Twitter started making jokes about Buju withholding the song because Zino must have outdone him on the track. BNXN didn’t hold back and in the end, had to deactivate.
Later on, he re-scheduled the release, and last week, we were graced by one of the most-talked-about songs of the season, a “Buju ft. Zinoleesky.”
Kilometer Remix ft. Zinoleesky
BNXN’s “Kilometer” is an uptempo jam and it had Buju doing a different vibe entirely. While such uptempo tracks may not exactly be his strong suit, Zinoleesky is not new to stuff like that.
Not that the track wasn’t okay with just Buju on it—it was, but while listening to the track, especially as part of the EP, you have this feeling that it could be better. Maybe Buju had that feeling or maybe he just wanted to do something interesting amid the chaos, it doesn’t matter.
The “Kilometer” Remix, like most remixes, has the same instrumental and essentially the basic parts remain the same (the first verse, chorus etc). Buju opened with the same first verse from the original, delivered the hook, and then Zino came in with a verse.
Zinoleesky’s verse is a much better one than whatever Buju previously had in that part obviously. He came in and dropped sixteen bars that only he could have dropped. His voice, the lyricism, the story, everything is all Zino. But for the fact that Buju took the most important part, he would have owned the song.
It’s hard to say who killed who since they weren’t exactly battling and the playing field wasn’t fair seeing as they didn’t have equal verses. But if one thing is sure, it is that I don’t ever wanna hear that original anymore!
Rating: 8/10
